Day One: Sebastian Falsone’s Road Back to the Field

On August 30, 2026, Sebastian Falsone stepped onto a soccer field again.

It may have looked like a normal game day to everyone watching. But for Sebastian, it was almost two years in the making.

The 24-year-old center back from Northern Virginia has played soccer his entire life. At 16, he experienced his first major injury. Another came at 20. Then, at 23, he tore his ACL.

Ten months into his recovery, Sebastian was hospitalized for two weeks after a medical complication. At one point, doctors feared his ACL had dissolved. Instead, the complication came from the materials used during his knee reconstruction.

For an athlete whose life has always revolved around soccer, there were plenty of reasons to ask, “Why me?”

Sebastian chose to ask a different question: “What can I do with this?”

“No matter the obstacle, there is always an opportunity to come out of it,” he said.

That sentence may be the simplest way to understand Sebastian.

His resilience is not limited to the soccer field. Away from the field he volunteers in his church’s children’s ministry, producing creative media. He gives his time, creativity and energy to something bigger than himself.

And perhaps that is why his definition of success feels so different.

Sebastian wants to play professionally. But more than that, he wants to be happy with what he is doing. He believes wealth is not defined only by what sits in your bank account, but by how much happiness, love, purpose and joy fills your life.

And if Sebastian Falsone is anything, he is full of joy.

He is rolling in it.

Falsone also measures success differently than many people might expect. His goal is to play professionally, but he wants something else just as much: to be happy with what he is doing.

To him, wealth is not measured only by the number sitting in a bank account. It is measured by the happiness, joy and people surrounding you.

And if Sebastian Falsone is one thing, it is joyful.

He is, quite literally, rolling in it.

Sebastian grew up with three siblings and credits his parents’ belief and sacrifices for helping shape the person he is today.

“There’s no amount of words that could express my appreciation,” he said.

He carries that gratitude with him, along with another lesson he believes in: “Invest in people who invest in you, not based on how much you like them.”

I chose Sebastian for this story because sometimes the people who teach us the most never realize they are teaching us at all.

I chose him because it is easy to celebrate an athlete when they are scoring goals, winning games and standing under the lights. It is harder to see the person who keeps showing up when there is no scoreboard, no crowd and no guarantee that the comeback will work. I have watched Sebastian choose resilience.

I have watched him continue to serve others while fighting through his own difficult season. And I have watched him hold onto joy when life gave him every reason to lose it.

Being “rich” is not always about having more. Sometimes, being rich means having people who believe in you, a purpose worth waking up for, faith to carry you through uncertainty and enough joy in your heart to give some of it away.

The man is full of quotes and one that stands out is, “Everyone has to start somewhere. It’s either day one or one day.”

On August 30, Sebastian finally got his day one.

And after everything it took to get there, it was never just a return to soccer.

It was a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful part of a comeback is not getting back to who you were.

It is discovering who you became along the way.

So, everyone, meet Sebastian Falsone a center back, a creative, a servant, a son, a friend, and a reminder that sometimes the greatest comeback is not just finding your way back to the field, but finding your way back to yourself.

For Sebastian, this is more than a comeback.

It’s day one.
